Red Granite students explore the outdoors during the first week of school

Located on the campus of Hewitt-Texas Elementary School, Red Granite utilizes the core principals of Public Waldorf with the goal of fostering a life-long love of learning and critical thinking by keeping kids engaged with the outdoors, one another, and the world around them.

As we've shared with you previously, the district is in the midst of an approximate $1.5 million budget deficit heading into the school year. A major reason for the budget deficit is the state funding model that has not kept pace with inflation. However, we're also navigating issues such as declining enrollment and the end of one-time ESSER funding.

As a reminder, from earlier this year, this is part of a Wausau School District/Wausau School Board process to create a long-range elementary school facilities plan.  That plan will focus, in particular, on whether the number of elementary schools in the Wausau School District should be reduced and if so, then how, where, and when.
